Send letters to our City Council members (CM)…
Thank them for their courageous leadership: creating car-free streets, voting for tax justice, challenging racist police practices, and/or ask them their priorities for the Seattle Green New Deal. Some pundits are scapegoating them for voting to reprioritize the city budget so they need to hear from you about what you appreciate and will support.
At large CM Teresa Mosqueda and CM Lorena Gonzales represent all of us.
CM Kshama Sawant and CM Tammy Morales represent Southeast Seattle voters.

Asking both Senators to support the funding the Postal Service and the Federal Green New Deal and to oppose corporate fossil fuel bailouts. Also, send letters to both senators to support the THRIVE resolution (Transform, Heal, and Renew by Investing in a Vibrant Economy), our road map to a just recovery that will put millions of people back to build an economy prioritizing climate, racial, and economic justice The THRIVE Agenda is the result of months of collaboration between dozens of grassroots groups advocating for climate, economic, and racial justice. It proposes a just economic recovery plan that upholds eight pillars:
1. Create millions of good, safe jobs with access to unions
2. Build the power of workers to fight inequality
3. Invest in Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities to build power, counteract racial and gender injustice
4. Strengthen and heal the nation-to-nation relationship with Indigenous nations
5. Combat environmental injustice and ensure healthy lives for all
6. Avert climate and environmental catastrophe
7. Ensure fairness for workers and communities affected by economic transitions
8. Reinvest in public institutions that enable workers and communities to thrive
A just economic recovery will put millions to work in good union jobs, resulting in the largest expansion of clean, renewable energy in history. It will prioritize investment in Black, Brown and Indigenous communities, while ensuring clean air, clean water, and healthy communities for all.
Sample Letter to Senator Cantwell: Sept. 2020
Thank, Ask her to support the Green New Deal, Sample:
e.g. Thank you for your letter re: telling the EPA to use the Clean Water Act to Bristol Bay Pebble Min.
Bristol Bay is home to the world’s largest salmon run; roughly 40-60 million salmon return to the watershed every year. The proposed Pebble Mine project would threaten miles of marine waters, wetlands, lakes, and streams and could jeopardize more than 14,000 fishing jobs in the Pacific Northwest. For years, the pristine waters of Bristol Bay were protected by the safeguards put in place by President Obama’s EPA and the Clean Water Act. Then the Trump Administration came in and greenlighted the Pebble Mine, which would generate tons of toxic mining waste, devastate nearly 105 miles of spawning streams, and destroy up to 2,200 acres of wetland. Plus, it would disrupt the broader $1.5 billion commercial and recreational sockeye salmon fishery. The science is clear — you can’t put a gold and copper mine on top of the most productive salmon run in the world and not have substantial and permanent damage. Let’s prevent disaster before it happens. Please support the Federal Green New Deal and refuse to spend one more tax dollar funds bail out fossil fuel corporations. Please reply with your commitments. Thank you.
Sample Letter to Senator Patty Murray: Sept. 2020
e.g. Reply to her message & ask her to support the Green New Deal in all future funding bills.
Thank you for your letter responding to our request that you support the End Polluter Welfare Act, currently pending in the United States Senate under the jurisdiction of the Finance Committee. You assured us that while you are not a member of that Committee, you will be following the progress of this bill and will keep our views in mind if this or related legislation comes before the full Senate for consideration. You hope we will continue to keep in touch and so we will. Please do not wait. Do not hesitate. This is a climate, human and economic emergency. California and Eastern Washington homes are burning, smoky skies are spreading throughout our state.
Speak out now, publically and privately, to support the Federal Green New Deal. Refuse to spend one more tax dollar on fossil fuel bailouts which exacerbate the climate crisis. Express your commitment to all future Federal funds fit the mandate of the Green New Deal. Please reply with your commitments. Thank you.
