Just 24 hours after ringing in the new year, Sen. Rebecca Saldaña joined the 37th Environment and Climate Caucus to share her insights on upcoming legislation. There was certainly a lot of ground to cover! (To stay up to date on her efforts throughout the legislative session, sign up for her newsletter.)
Her top priorities on the Transportation Committee include ZEV and Clean Fuels. She noted that getting friends and family in other districts to call their reps (particularly if they are on the committee) would be helpful in garnering the support necessary to get these bills passed. You can give them talking points from our resolutions. It could also be worth noting this story about how clean fuels support our local economy.
We also discussed: capital gains tax to fix our upside down tax structure, removing the ban on apartments/duplexes in single family zones to encourage increasing housing supply and density, the next steps of the HEAL Act, and more.
One way to support these environmental bills is to head to Olympia to attend the Democrats Lobby Day on January 17th or Environmental Lobby Dayon January 30th and meet with your representatives to voice your support.
Hope to see you there!
– Emily Knudsen, Chair of the 37th Environment and Climate Caucus
