Got Green Green-A-Thon 2019
SSCAN is once again supporting Got Green, the area’s leading grassroots climate justice organization, in its annual fundraising campaign, the Green-a-thon. Last year we made a meaningful contribution of $500. We have set a goal of $1,000 for this year. You can donate HERE.

We will be participating in Got Green’s Earth Day Community Canvass on Saturday, April 20th, 2019 (two days before Earth Day). Got Green will be distributing home air filters to South Seattle residents, while having conversations about the connections between wildfires, climate change, and community resilience.
And we are invited to the Community Celebration on May 9th at the Georgetown Stables. Details on both events in a later post.

Why we support Got Green.
Got Green builds community power by waging visionary campaigns at the intersection of racial, economic, gender and climate justice that incite community participation, provides a pipeline of leadership development for directly impacted communities, and engages in direct action. Three grassroots committees — Food Access, Young Leaders, and Climate Justice — are Got Green’s primary vehicles of building power and creating change.

The homes being hit hardest by climate change impacts–floods, heat waves, mold and high utilities bills– are working-class families and families of color in South Seattle. Got Green believes that strong and powerful communities rooted in place will be able to weather the storm of climate change through fair housing, dignified work, public transit, and healthy food. With a rapidly changing city, Got Green is drawing the links between gentrification, displacement, climate change and community power.

Please donate.
When you decide how much to donate please go to our fundraising page on Got Green’s website here You can donate online or by check and it will automatically register on our page as helping meet our goal. Whatever you can afford is the right amount. Last year donations ranged from $25 to $100 from 11 donors. We would like to double the dollars and the donors this year!

Join the Team!
We have a team of four –the Super-SSCAN team–to help us get to our goal. I’m the Captain of the Team. Beth Brunton and I were very involved with the 1631 campaign and are now pushing for the Green New Deal which Got Green strongly endorses. We would welcome others to join our team. Donate HERE!
