CHASING CHILDHOOD explores how free play and independence have all but disappeared from many kids’ lives, supplanted by relentless perfectionism leading to record rates of anxiety and depression, a situation now compounded by the pandemic.  Free play, unsupervised by adults, is critical for developing essential life skills: grit, independence, and resourcefulness. Many young adults may appear more accomplished on paper, but by the time they get to college they are emotionally struggling and lacking the tools needed to live independently.

The film includes the work of:

Peter Gray-  Free to Learn: Why Unleashing the Instinct to Play Will Make our Children Happier, More Self-Reliant, and Better Students for Life.

Lenore Skenazy- Free Range Kids: Giving our Kids the Freedom We Had Without Going Nuts with Worry.

Julie Lythcott-Haims-  How to Raise an Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap and Prepare Your Kid For Success

Michael Hynes -Fulbright Specialist and an associate professor of education and leadership at Long Island University and Stony Brook University. His mission is to spread the message of the importance of a holistic approach to educating children.  Currently Superintendent of Port Washington Public School District, NY.
