Please join us for the next movie, Scarred Lands, Wounded Lives: The Environmental Footprint of War. This film shows how wars and preparation for war threaten our planet. From production of weapons through combat to cleanup and restoration, war pollutes land, air, and water, destroys biodiversity, and drains natural resources. Yet the environmental damage of war is routinely underestimated, underreported, and even ignored. Our planet remains war’s silent casualty.
After the movie, our guest speakers will offer local groups’ goals, strategies and action to heal our planet and prevent further degradation. Lilly Adams, Security Program Organizer from WPSR will share achievements and plans of a new state-wide coalition working to stop nuclear weapons. Dan Gilman, President of the Seattle Chapter of Veterans For Peace will report about what his group is doing to prevent future wars. Beth Brunton, South Seattle Climate Action Network (SSCAN), will report on SSCAN’s related work including recent state legislative victories and future challenges.
